08.19.05 (7:35 am)   [edit]
LG Electronics Canada says its new Plasma HDTV series is the world’s first with built-in, high-definition digital video recorder , HD-DVR . The series is driven by LG’s proprietary XD Engine technology: the second-generation XD Engine chip is built into the unit to receive the low resolution of analog signals, and process them, thus improving brightness, contrast, detail, enhancing colour and reducing signal noise.

HDTV on Linux

05.30.05 (8:12 pm)   [edit]

The dividing line between Computer and HDTV technology is becoming smaller by the day. Vendors sell a 20" LCD system monitor and a 20" LCD HDTV. The functionality provided by both is pretty much the same. You can turn an existing computer monitor into a HDTV set by installing a receiver card in the PC, or by using an external HDTV converter.

If you are a Linux user you can use the receiver card from pc HDTV Inc.

The pc HDTV HD-3000 Hi Definition Television Card is the next generation digital television card to be produced specially for the Linux video hobbyist market. Shipped with the open source multimedia player, Xine, the card provides a ATSC stream to the Xine mpeg2 decoder for playback and can be used with MythTV.

The HD-3000 Hi Definition Television PCI Card is an universal PCI 2.2 compliant card. The card receives NTSC and ATSC Signals and converts them to digital streams which are transported across the PCI bus. Display and MPEG2 decoding are done on the host computer in software and displayed on the computers monitor. The pc HDTV Hi Definition PCI card is based on Oren Semiconductor's ATSC receiver chip and Conexant's CX23883 NTSC receiver chip providing excellent HD and SD reception.

This camcorder's introduction is in response to the growing demand for HDTV. With more broadcasters transmitting HDTV content, the demand for HDTV has been steadily increasing. How HDTV Differs from Analog TV

05.30.05 (5:06 am)   [edit]

HDTV has higher resolution:

Meaning sharper and clearer pictures. The image on a television is composed of small picture elements called pixels. The pixels in HDTV are closely packed together to provide a highly detailed picture. Current analog TVs display an image of 200,000 pixels. The minimum DTV signal shows 300,000 pixels and hits a maximum of two million for HDTV, the best of the 18 ATSC formats.

HDTV has a widescreen format:

In addition to providing improved picture quality with more visible detail, HDTV is transmitted in a widescreen display commonly referred to as a 16:9 format, meaning that the picture is 16 units wide by 9 units high. A conventional analog display is 4 units wide by 3 units high, or 4:3. Thus the 16:9 display provides a wider image area that more closely matches the movie theater experience.

HDTV has better sound:

Many HDTV programs also contain six-channel (5.1) Dolby Digital surround sound to provide an immersive audio experience to complement the improved picture quality on HDTV. This is particularly beneficial within a home theater system.

HDTV Market research report

05.30.05 (5:02 am)   [edit]

Northern Sky Research, LLC releases HDTV Market research report

One of the most talked about subjects within the satellite industry today is High Definition Television (HDTV). Until recently, HDTV seemed relegated to being a niche market service. It is now widely accepted that HD is emerging as a mass-market product, and the entire global television broadcasting industry is just beginning to come to terms with the true ramifications of the realization of the often over-hyped HD "dream".
Northern Sky Research, LLC examines this exciting emerging industry by providing an in-depth analysis of the key trends affecting the global HD market. Rather than focus on the consumer market, the report focuses on the impact of HD for satellite and telecom companies.
Will it create the next new wave of increased capacity demand that operators are hoping for? And if so, what sort of revenue potential does HD actually present for the global satellite industry? These important questions are answered in this report through detailed regional forecasting of the growth of the HD industry over the next 5 years. This report is a MUST for satellite operators, DTH broadcasters, cable operators, service providers, equipment vendors and any other company with a vested interest in HDTV.

HDTV tidbit

HDTV is the best

The best television sets currently available are HDTV with 16:9 widescreen aspect ratios capable of displaying either 720p, 1080i or higher resolutions. HDTV sets also have built-in digital receivers/decoders and deliver Dolby Digital sound. HDTV sets are available as either direct view (familiar tube TVs), rear or front projection models.

HDTV is sooooo cool

05.16.05 (3:26 am)   [edit]

I recently accidentally came across HDTV. I am now so fascinated by HDTV that I decided to start a blog dedicated to it.

Buying a TV is supposed to be easy. Not so with developments in the recent past. Now you need to worry about a lot of things when buying a HDTV : Aspect Ratio, Projection Display, Resolution, Wide Screen and what not.

For starters HDTV is a relatively new standard  of transmitting video.  Unlike normal television, high definition displays crystal clear digitally encoded video.  HDTV delivers picture and sound quality that are a quantum leap above the current TV set. It's just like a movie theater was placed in your living room! Every show you watch no matter if it's the local news or a championship sports event takes on a vivid brilliance that simply has to be seen to be appreciated.
